There are some red flags that should be taken into account for back pain: pain in the extremities, recent unwanted weight loss, fever or chills and groin numbness and incontinence.
Dr. Georgiy Brusovanik, Spine Surgeon with Baptist Health South Florida, says it’s unusual for mid-back pain to be associated with pain going down the lower extremities, but it’s possible.
The expert says when metastatic disease happens, cancer spreads to the thoracic spine. That’s why he worries when an unwanted weight loss occurs.
